Duct tape certainly has its practical uses. People use it to adhere posters to the wall, connect the ends of wires or ropes and fix or temporarily fix just about any household crack or repair. Admired globally for its ability to hold just about anything together duct tape has been used to make a variety of um…shall we say unusual items. Here are just a few of the unique things people have crafted with duct tape.

Duct Tape Wallet This is actually a common use of duct tape and duct tape wallets can be bought online in just about any color imaginable. It probably began when someone repaired their wallet with a strip of duct tape. As the wallet wore down, they continued to add duct tape until the entire wallet was covered which likely prompted the thought, “why don’t I just make a wallet out of duct tape” and duct tape history was made. Here the quick instructions on how to do it.

Supplies:
o Ruler
o Scissors
o Duct tape

Measure out a ten and a half inch of duct tape, cut it, and lay it sticky side up. Cut another strip of the same length and place it on top of the first strip sticky side down leaving half of the sticky tape facing up. Fold over the top edge. Flip over the now connected strips and place a third strip sticky side down covering the remaining sticky part of the second strip. Flip the sheet again and continue the process until you have a sheet that is approximately eight and a half inches tall. Trim the edges, fold the wallet in half and tape three of the sides, leaving one long side open to slide your money in. The project can be complete now or you can add spaces for your credit card on the front by creating smaller sheets and simply taping them into the wallet you’ve just created.

The instructions aren’t here, but look at this cool duct tape iPod cover! That would be easy enough to make with duct tape, scissors, craft knife and a tape measure.

Duct Tape Skirt Stumped for what to wear to that special event? How about a duct tape skirt? Sure, that shiny metallic tape comes in a variety of colors and is ultra durable. Best of all, if something is spilled on it, it can just be hosed off, patted dry and you can return to the party. To make a skirt out of duct tape you’ll need:

o Fabric tape measure.
o Scissors
o Duct tape

Take your own measurements, hips, waist, and the length of the skirt and write them down. Measure out a strip of tape half the width of your hips, (it’s wise to add an inch or two because duct tape can be trimmed to fit). Lay the strip on a flat surface sticky side up. Cut another piece the same length and lay it on top of the first piece leaving about half of the first piece exposed. Continue layering duct tape strips on top of each other, sticky side up, until you reach the desired length of your skirt.

Once you’ve reached the desired length of your skirt, or a little longer so you have room to trim, begin cutting strips and laying them on top of the sticky sheet you just made. This time lay the strips sticky side down. You’re creating the front side of your skirt. Continue the process until a full sheet has been made. Repeat the process to create the backside of your skirt. Fold a strip of tape over the top and the bottom of the skirt to create an even seam and tape the two sides together. Tape them well. You wouldn’t want to lose your skirt halfway through the night. Cut a slit in the top so you can easily get into your skirt. Tape the slit sides so they don’t fray. You can use sticky back Velcro or a button to fasten the skirt. Voila, you’re ready to hit the town.

These are just two of the many crazy things people make with duct tape. Use your imagination and I’m sure you can come up with more ideas. Have fun!

The uber crafty hosts of the DIY Network’s popular show, Creative Juice, took their unique crafty outlook on life and put it in print in their book, Creative Juice. Creative Juice, written by Cathie Filian and Steve Piacenza, is 128 pages with 45 re-crafting projects to make with recycled stuff. The book is a paperback making it affordable for all crafters…and this is a book for all crafters! Whether you’ve been crafting for years or you’re just getting started, this will still be an awesome craft book for you. You’re not going to find that any of the projects in the book are too elementary or too difficult. The book was written for grown-ups but kids will love the projects too! This book instantly became my favorite craft book as soon as I started turning the pages!

The best part about Creative Juice is that it is chock full of clear, color photos and illustrations. Each project includes a short summary of what the project is, a list of what you need, easy to follow instructions and tips. Some of my favorite craft projects included in the book are: Word Game Funky Frames, Bleached Rocker Tees, Spicy Tea Soap and the incredible Folk art Hubcap Candelabra.

After you read flip through Creative Juice and see the awesome projects that these two clever and creative minds have come up with, you’re going to be inspired to take your crafting to the next level! And you’ll definitely think twice the next time you go to throw something away! You’ll be asking yourself, “Hey, what could I make with this?”

This is a solvent based stamp pad designed for decorating non-porous surfaces such as glass, metal, shrink plastic cellophane, aluminum foil, leather, and acrylic - it is permanent ink. With Staz-On you’ll achieve a beautiful stained glass appearance due to the transparent nature of the ink. Currently you can get the Staz-On Ink Pads anywhere from around $6 to $9.

I like using Staz On when I am going to watercolor. Since the ink is permanent, it doesn’t run like other inks may. It’s recommended that you use a staz on ink cleaner for cleaning your stamps off.

The Making Memories paper trimmer gets rave reviews from me. Weighing less than 5 pounds, it folds in half for quick and easy storage and the self-sharpening blade means I never have to buy a replacement. But if you have ever had experience with other paper trimmers, what really matters is how accurate it cuts. Well this cuts perfectly each and every time.

Have you ever had to trim off the white pieces off of a photo or something like that? This trimmer will cut the tinniest sliver of paper for you. You probably won’t believe how close it trims until you use it for yourself. There have been times when I cut a piece of paper just a little too big - not realizing it until I started putting a card together. I have easily taken just a little bit off without messing up my card.

Every cut is precisely where I want it. Using the grid to line things up after unfolding the MM Precision Fold Trimmer because the fold can make the top and bottom edges not line up perfectly. I love that it folds out if you want and you can use it folded as well. I have a smaller craft area where I am right now so I’ve been using it while folded and on my lap and it works perfectly.

Another cool feature would be the magnetic ruler that is used for scoring and holding in place while cutting with no slipping around. You can attach it to the trimmer at any measurement, like at 6 inches, and when you put the paper right against the ruler you will get perfect 6” cuts every time!

The MM 12” x 12” Precision Trimmer has a cutting grid with pre-measured templates for 4” x 6”, 5” x 7”, 8” x 10” and 8.5” x 11”; It is marked in inches and centimeters with .5” cutting grid. Get your MM 12 x 12″ Precision Trimmer today so you can see for yourself how useful it really is!

This Susan Bates Silvalume Crochet Hook Set comes in a pouch with 6 different sized hooks (Sizes F-5 to K-10 ½). The different sizes go with whatever size yarn I have. If you’re just starting out they are easier to use than other brands and once you get going, you can go pretty quickly. Because these hooks are very smooth and don’t snag your yarn or thread. This is the set I purchased when my friend first taught me to crochet and I am glad.

These are the best crochet hooks that I’ve found. This set is made with durable aluminum that is polished for extra smoothness. I see other hooks that I’d like to try, but honestly I haven’t just because of how I love these ones. A friend of mine has a different set of hooks and somehow she ends up snagging the yarn, not every stitch, but often enough for me to not like them.

You can find this set of 6 at Amazon for $9.99. This qualifies for free shipping with a minimum $35 purchase of other qualifying items offered by Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores®. Get your Susan Bates Silvalume Crochet Hook Set today!

I love this portable, user-friendly die-cutting and embossing machine. It can be used for paper crafting, scrapbooking, and school projects. The Cuttlebug makes it easy to cut shapes, emboss shapes, or you can cut then emboss. This machine has a roller style that works with any die on the market that fits through a 6 inch hole in the machine.

It’s very simple to use. Place the cutting material, die faced-up on the lowered platform between the cutting pads. Then just turn the handle to move the die through the machine. It’s also a portable unit that folds up with a built-in handle that pops up for you to carry. It includes a 2-by-2inch die and four 2-by-2-inch folders for professional-quality embossing.

I got to try this machine out at my local craft store. They were doing one of those all day demos on various products and this is easy to use. My daughter got the chance to turn the handle and she didn’t have a problem doing so. A huge plus in my book because anything she can do without too much of my help is great! That gives us the chance to both craft rather then spending lots of time getting things ready.

This unit is awesome because it works with all of your dies - Sizzlets, Sizzix, and Quickutz! Currently selling from $56 to $70 you can get the Cuttlebug Die-Cutting and Embossing Machine now.

If you do any scrapbooking you may know that not all embellishments come as stickers. With this machine you can turn anything that is up to 5 inches wide and about 1/8″ think into a sticker! If you cut out your own letters or words you can run those right through this easy to use machine and just press them down on your page. How simple is that?

Are you tired of those glue pens for the small letters that quickly fall off later? If so, I highly recommend getting this machine. It’s great for embellishments like ribbons and thin buttons. You can also make cd or dvd covers and mailing labels.

Currently this is priced at $26.69 and you won’t ever need to worry about plugging it in or using batteries because you just roll your item through one end to come out the other side. This makes it extremely portable to take this easy to use sticker machine! Get your Xyron 500 Create-A-Sticker Machine today!
