Crafter Cast Show #14

June 25, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

We are adding to our video tutorial series with Bradie of Quiltcetera. I met Bradie on twitter and was able to watch one of her ustream live quilting shows, which I am very much looking forward to her restarting! Starting a site with video tutorials is easy to do, as you will hear. Bradie and her husband, Matt, started in just a day.

Crafter Cast Show #12

June 11, 2008

This week starts a crafty business series. First up we have the basics - domain names, hosting, web design. Who do you work with? Are they easily accessible? Do you have a domain name or are you on a free space like blogspot.com? Listen in for our recommendations and tip for running a craft business. The series will continue throughout the summer.

I recommend 1and1.com for domains - they offer private domain registrations which means your personal information can be hidden from anyone searching. Remember your real information must be held with the company - making your domain name private just means someone has to go through the company to find it out.

Mom Webs Hosting is hands down the best web hosting out there. The support is amazing, the price is very reasonable and if you are techie enough, get the package that allows you to have behind the scenes access. With the Web Hosting Manager you can add your own domains to your package as well as control the allotted space and bandwidth. Of course the support people will also do this for you but the option is there. This is also known as a reseller package but I just use mine for my own personal use.

Free can be good - but if you want to look and be professional, having a dot com space is the way to go. We’ll talk more about web design and how to create your space online next time.

Crafter Cast Show #11

June 4, 2008

Creating video tutorials is a quick and easy way to share a technique with your audience - be it other crafty friends or customers. This week I am talking with Holly Endress, a Stampin Up demo for the past seven years. Holly has been making video tutorials showcasing various techniques which she then posts on her blog, InkaDinkaDoodle. Holly’s stamping blog has her videos posted as well as several cards she has made. I’ve been a customer of Holly’s for the past few years as we met in Washington State when our husbands were both stationed in the area and I am so glad she started making videos. It is often hard to create in a new community when your old community was full of get togethers and it was easy to throw ideas off of one another.

Here is her latest video - how to create a Chocolate Box.

Crafter Cast Show #10

May 14, 2008

Let’s talk about stepping out of your comfort zone! What can you do to get out of the space you are most comfortable with? I highlight three sites that make me want to make jewelry, make whatever I can and dye my hair. I wish I lived in a town that had cooler thrift stores because I can never find anything vintage in ours.

Push yourself just a little - take a step toward doing something you just haven’t been able to do.

Crafter Cast Show #8

April 30, 2008

This week I have an interview with Marie Ynami of the Craft and Hobby site. Marie finished a time capsule scrapbook and I love the concept. A time capsule scrapbook simply is a way to look back on a period of time without having to bury anything in the ground. Marie’s book focused on the millenimum and I plan on my first book to be all the places we have lived and a few things about each place. I’ve been picking out and printing pictures to get ready but know I won’t be able to start until after we get settled.

Don’t forget the Mommy Fest High 5 picture contest - I will be posting my pictures of my five items, did you take yours yet?

Please call the listener line at (214) 615-6505 ext 7194 if you have a comment, question or show suggestion.

Welcome to show number seven - Making Your Own Beauty Products

In this weeks show I talk about making your own beauty products. You will most likely have all the ingredients you need already in your kitchen cupboards, maybe you need to run out and buy essential oil like I do. You will end up with a product that you know exactly what went into making it and your kids can probably help with the mixing and making.

Here is Carrie Lauth’s free beauty guide - and the angry chicken bath bombs. Download Carrie’s guide today and let me know what you are making.

As for an update on my tshirt quilt - pictures are coming soon! I am entering the 5th Annual Mommy Fest contest for chocolate and the tshirts will be a part of the picture.

Crafter Cast Show #6

April 16, 2008

In this weeks show I talk about UFOs - or UnFnished Objects. I have the materials to make a rag quilt and I’ve had them for over three years - does the quilt qualify as an unfinished object? Or not since it hasn’t actually been started yet, I just mean to start it. I think most of us would say it is not a UFO as if just supplies counted, a lot of us crafters would be in trouble because of the size of our stashes.

I am also starting a tshirt quilt using old concert tshirts and one or two from college. I think this is going to be a great project and I can’t wait to get started. Updates and pictures next week.

And Twitter! Are you tweeting? Twitter is a great site to mingle with friends and meet new ones - if you are not already signed up, do so today. And if you are - add me as a friend! I am tweeting from my Tsoniki account - rather than the CrafterCast account I also have.

Please call the listener line at (214) 615-6505 ext 7194 if you have any tips, comments or show ideas.

Crafter Cast Show #5

April 9, 2008

Welcome back Crafters!

This week we are talking about crafting while traveling, or moving. I have been on the move since December and did bring craft supplies but doesn’t have a craft space to use anymore. It can be difficult to craft and travel but if you bring certain supplies you will still enjoy doing what you love while not in your own home or space.

We also talk about kids crafts while traveling - my daughter has been making yarn bracelets using the wonder knitter.

I am guest blogging over at the Mommy Hobby site, head on over there to find articles on many different craft related subjects.

If you have any tips or tricks for us regarding traveling and crafting leave a comment or call the listener line at (214) 615-6505 ext 7194.
